Martian Project Kickoff Party!

*NOTE: THIS IS A TICKETED EVENT; RSVPS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND - SEE BOTTOM OF PAGE.

84 years ago, on October 30, 1938, an up-and-coming star named Orson Welles made history with his "War of the Worlds" broadcast. This radio adaptation of H. G. Wells' sci-fi novel of the same name envisioned a Martian invasion of the planet earth. The aliens' landing site? The historic community of Grovers Mill, right here in West Windsor - and now they're coming back!

Join us on October 30 from 4-7PM as we and the West Windsor Arts Council celebrate the early stages of a year-long community sculpture project - the "mArtian Project" - that will welcome our friendly alien mascot to town! The location: the historic Schenck Farmstead/West Windsor History Museum at 50 Southfield Road (right across the road from the Cranbury Golf Club)!

Featuring:
  • The reveal and award ceremony for the winning design from the preliminary sculpture contest.
  • Talk by A. Brad Schwartz, author of “Broadcast Hysteria,” on the history, truths, and myths of the broadcast that thrust our town into the national spotlight on that infamous "Mischief Night" so many years ago.
  • Self-guided tours of the historic 1700s-era Schenck Farmstead/West Windsor History Museum.
  • Halloween crafts, bonfire, fine food, libations, and more!
  • Sponsorship opportunities - email Aylin Green at [email protected] for more info.
