Mundy House

Historical Overview
Standing at the intersection of South Mill Road and Princeton-Hightstown Road is a large, 2-story house that has clearly been enlarged over time. With an address of 3 South Mill Road, this building is a member of West Windsor's "100 Club" and a contributing structure to the historic hamlet of Vanhiseville.

Township tax records claim this building was constructed in 1875,[1] but the building is very possibly much older. A structure appears here on a map from 1849.[2] At the time, the property was owned by Israel Mundy, who had purchased this tract - which, per the deed, contained a house - from Jonathan and Ellen Jimison.[3]

The house eventually passed to the following owners:
  • Charles and Ann Everett (????-52)[4]
  • Benjamin and Lydia Reed (1852-57)[5],[6]
  • Richard Hutchinson (1857-68)[7],[8]
  • Harriet Schenck (1868-72)[9],[10]
  • John V. N. Wyckoff (1872-74)[11],[12]
  • John Walker (1874-18??)[13]
  • B R. Temple (????-????)[15]
  • Harry Snedeker (1913-1952)[16]
  • K. Allen and Barbara Roszel (1952-64)

The property has long since passed to new owners, yet remains an original building in the community of Vanhiseville.
