George and Gertrude Tindall House

Historical Overview
A 2.5-story L-shaped late Victorian house with wrap around porch stands at 1714 Old Trenton Road in the heart of the historic community of Edinburg. This building - hereafter called the "George and Gertrude Tindall" house - is also a member of West Windsor's "100 Club."

According to family members and censuses house was likely constructed some time between 1900 and 1910.[1],[2],[3] It was originally located on the same plot as the adjacent house at 1712 Old Trenton Road, and was consequently owned by John and Anna Tindall.[4]

However, it was their son, George Washington Tindall, who lived here with his wife, Gertrude B. Kelly Tindall.[5],[6],[7],[8],[9] George, a carpenter[10] - like his father[11] - and foreman for Lewis C. Bowers & Sons in Princeton,[12] was also was one of West Windsor's first Building Inspectors (1940s-50s) and its first Zoning Officer (also 1940s-50s).[13] The couple raised several children, including Maurice, Sanford, and Malcolm[14] (the last of who would be an eventual owner of the adjacent house at 1712 Old Trenton Road).[15]

George passed away in 1956,and Gertrude in 1971 (by which point she had moved out of the house). Since then, the house has passed through a number of owners. Like its neighbors, it still contributes to the historic character of Edinburg.
