Overview

This online museum was created by Paul Ligeti - a lifelong resident of West Windsor and a member of the West Windsor Historical Societ. His interest in the township was sparked back in 2009, when he commenced work on his Boy Scout Eagle Project - the West Windsor Historic Bike Trail, previously an 11-mile route that explored 40 of the township's historic sites (and since expanded). In November of 2018, his interest in the township's history was refreshed, whereupon work on this online museum (as well as a number of yet-to-be-announced events) commenced. Paul's efforts included thousands of hours of immersive research, digitizing of the Historical Society's and Township's archives, social media outreach, historical analysis, and website design. Hopefully, these efforts will preserve West Windsor's heritage for years to come, especially in the face of rapid suburbanization and evolution of this once-sleepy agrarian community into a bustling suburban municipality. He can be reached by using the "Contact Us!" page.

All of his efforts, however, would have been for naught, if not for the help of the following people:
  • Joan Parry - Joan, a founding member of the Historical Society of West Windsor, served as its president for over 20 years. Under her tenure, she collected thousands of manuscripts, maps, movies, memories, and more, ensuring that the heritage of West Windsor would be available for those who followed. Additionally, she led efforts to preserve several buildings throughout the township and hosted numerous events at the Schenck Farmstead in the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s. Without Joan's efforts to collect the aforementioned items, there would have been almost no recorded history to digitize.
  • Trevor LePrevost - Trevor assisted with website design and digitizing of the archives. Additionally, he, Paul, and Sophia are  administrators of the Historical Society's social media accounts.
  • Sophia Lennox - Sophia has helped with archive digitization, social media, and school/youth outreach.
  •  The Historical Society of West Windsor - Various members have contributed their time to preserve the township's heritage. Whether restoring the Schenck farmhouse, barn, schoolhouse, and windmill, managing meetings, serving as docents, or collaborating with the municipality, every member of the Historical Society has served an instrumental role in maintaining a vital part of West Windsor's cultural identity.
  • Benjamin Mair-Pratt - Benjamin wrote the "West Windsor at War" and "Alien Invasion" sections of this website, helping to bring these vital points of West Windsor's heritage to life. He also assisted with citations.
  • Elizabeth Palena - Elizabeth assisted with citations for the villages, and is helping with citations for every Special Historical Topic web page. Additionally, she and Paul will restart the oral histories project some time in the winter of 2019 or Spring of 2020, interviewing both residents of the township's oldest families as well as those who have moved in since the early 1980s.
  • Gay Hubert - Gay helped locate, and lend, thousands of manuscripts from the West Windsor Township's municipal archives, including hundreds of town meetings from the 1700s and 1800s, indentures, abandonments, bonds, deeds, poems, and miscellaneous items.
