Many think of cemeteries as forbidden places but they are actually quiet, peaceful, and full of community history.

Join the Historical Society of West Windsor at the Princeton Baptist Church (261 Washington Road) for a lecture on the symbolism and history of West Windsor's cemeteries! This event is free to the public, but please RSVP using the form below. This event has three parts:

  1. Lecture on the history of West Windsor's burial grounds - by Paul Ligeti, Vice President of the Historical Society of West Windsor
  2. Lecture on cemetery symbolism and architecture - by Cheryl Jackson of the Hopewell Valley Historical Society
    • Cheryl Jackson will discuss how her passion grew from taking photos of cemeteries to researching, reading and writing about them. She will show various gravestone examples (local and outside of West Windsor) and explain their meanings and highlight examples of some local stone carvers. Visit Cheryl’s website or her instagram page. She was also featured in Weird NJ, Oct. 2015 for her doll photography.
  3. Guided tour of the graveyard of the Princeton Baptist Church - West Windsor's oldest house of worship (1812)! Led by both Cheryl and Paul.

This lecture is just part of year-long celebrations throughout 2022 for West Windsor's 225th birthday.
